How Long it Takes to Complete HAZWOPER 40 Training
One of the first questions asked about HAZWOPER training is how long the course takes to complete. More specifically, employers and employees alike often ask how long it takes to complete the HAZWOPER 40 online training course.
The “40” in HAZWOPER refers to the number of hours needed to complete the certification. Most 40-Hour HAZWOPER training courses will take between 36 to 42 hours to complete. In-person classes may happen every day for an entire work week. Online courses can be completed in more convenient chunks - you can work for an hour a day or five hours a day.
The HAZWOPER 40 course from National Environmental Trainers (NET) is self-paced, meaning you are free to approach the work as quickly or as slowly as you wish, and there is no deadline for completion. Participants may complete the required hours in a week or over the course of a year. It’s entirely up to you, or your employer, to determine a deadline for completing HAZWOPER 40.
Our online training courses save your progress as you go so you may log back in any time and begin where you last left off. HAZWOPER 40 is accessible 24/7, allowing you to work around your own busy schedule.
Once initially certified, HAZWOPER 40 requires an annual 8-hour refresher course in order to renew certification.
How HAZWOPER 40 Online is Structured
NET’s 40-Hour HAZWOPER training is online, and it may be accessed by any device with an internet connection. This allows you the freedom to work toward your certification at home, on the road from your laptop or tablet, or even from your smartphone.
HAZWOPER 40 is an interactive course featuring narration, detailed explanations, and checkpoint questions to ensure comprehension. Upon completion of the self-study modules, you will take a final examination in order to earn your HAZWOPER certification.
Along the way, you will also train on the NET HAZWOPER Hands-On Simulator, the only online simulation of its kind that is accepted by OSHA. This virtual simulator can be accessed online and teaches the proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE) used on a worksite.
After passing the final exam, you may immediately download a digital certificate documenting that you’ve met HAZWOPER 40-hour training requirements. NET maintains records of all course completions and will send an email reminding you of your annual refresher course due date.
HAZWOPER 40 fulfills OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response 29 CFR 1910.120(e) and counts for 6.68 Industrial Hygiene Certification Maintenance points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), and 4 Continuance of Certification points by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
